~ The Benefits of Full Time Monitoring (7x24x365)
~ Waveform of the Month
~ By viewing the waveform below, you can tell that it is important to monitor both phase-phase voltage and phase-ground voltage to see what phases are actually overloaded.

~ Monitoring the power quality of a site is very difficult. So many times we monitor after there is a system problem. Even though the system may only have a problem every 3-4 months, somehow we expect to see why the system has issues that week after the service engineer has replaced all of the parts and the customer is aware of the system issues and is careful about how the system is used. With all of this, we often wonder why it is not always conclusive what the issue is when we monitor the following week. The goal behind monitoring is to learn something. Something that will tell you what is going on with the feeder to your system. Pre-site monitoring is very useful in determining what the baseline data looked like so that some immediate corrective actions can be taken. At the very least, it is helpful to have the baseline data on file if there suddenly became system issues. If that happens, you will have a point of reference to compare to. But what is the best way to monitor?

~ Continuously; that is the best way to monitor. Knowing is much better than guessing!  With RxMS's new R-Box and B-Box technology, continuous monitoring of the system is now possible for as little as $300 per month or less! The R-box is designed to be a low cost monitoring service that is ideal to be built into the equipment (power conditioners, UPSs, PDUs, etc.) and comes in a rack-mount or OEM version. The B-Box is a high-end monitoring service that is available in a wall mount unit that can send data over the internet or can be downloaded by the local USB port. All systems include RxMS's support services and weekly “Check-up” service.

~ Continuous monitoring allows you to see what happened before, during and after the system failure. Monitoring both voltage and current allows you to see if the utility caused the issues (or some other load on the feeder) or if the load caused it. Is ground current the culprit? When did it first start and why? What about the T&H? With RxMS's wireless sensors, you can monitor multiple points and see how the air flow is in the room.

~ For $10 per day, can you get any better information? Not when circuit boards cost $10,000 or more and not when system down time can cost thousands of dollars an hour! How available is the information? Almost as available as not having to look over millions of files of data – using RxMS experts, you’ll get the answer in as little as 48 hours or if connected to the internet, using Rx Alarms, you could be notified immediate (if not sooner)! Information, when you need and support to assist you immediately – not bad!

~ Bob Thomas, President of RxMS, will be speaking at the 2008 Electric West Conference this month in Las Vegas. To view the slideshow of his presentation on

~ Recently, on 1/1/08 Erik Kindseth and Bob Thomas were awarded a patent for Wave Shape Detection. This is Erik’s second patent and Bob’s third patent overall in the field of power protection and power line monitoring. Congratulations Bob and Erik!
